Ichthus is a style of Christian adventure camp run during the school holidays. It is an exciting holiday experience that challenges young people to step outside their comfort zones through participation in group and individual activities. Ichthus also gives the participants opportunities to form and strengthen new and existing friendships and to spend time in group discussion. All of this takes place in a safe Christian community that encourages participants to meet the God who challenges us to step out and live a life of faith in Jesus. Some of the activities Ichthus has done in the past includes: Raft building, High/Mid ropes, Flying Fox, Dreamworld trips, Beach Trips, trips to Aussieworld, Rock Climbing, Archery and much more.
Ichthus has been running in Queensland since 2002. In NSW, Ichthus camps have been running for over 20 years. Many of the leaders on these camps grew up attending them.
The word Ichthus comes from Koine Greek, where it means fish. In Koine Greek, it is also an acronym for “Jesus Christ, God’s Son, Saviour”.
There are currently three Ichthus camps being run in the Diocese of Brisbane:
Primary Ichthus is for Grades 4 to 7 during the Summer school holidays.
Junior Ichthus is for Grades 7 to 9 during the Spring school holidays.
Senior Ichthus is for Grades 10 to 12 during the Winter school holidays.
