Important Announcement regarding Date Change
It has come to my attention earlier in the day (31st October) that there has been an error in the campsite booking for Primary Ichthus 2019 and we are actually booked for the 16th-19th of January rather than the 9-12th. We are unable to change the booking and as we are only a couple months out from camp, I have decided with the senior team to run camp on the new dates.
I want to apologise to everyone, this was my responsibility and I failed to book the dates correctly. I take full responsibility for it and if I was in any position to fix this, I would. Sadly I can’t, and have to ask for your understanding, forgiveness, and to ask you to recheck your calendars to see if you are able to send your kids on Primary Ichthus Camp.
I am very aware that this may be sadly not possible for some families who plan holidays in advance and I am heartbroken for any campers who may not be able to come because of this. I endeavour to ensure our camps are planned to be as inclusive and reliable as possible and will be triple checking all details here on out to ensure this do not happen again.

1. What is Primary Ichthus?
Primary Ichthus is a four day/ three night residential camp during the January school holidays. It is an exciting holiday experience that challenges young people to step outside their comfort zones through participation in group and individual activities. Primary Ichthus also gives the participants opportunities to form and strengthen new and existing friendships and to spend time in group discussion. All of this takes place in a safe Christian community that encourages participants to meet the God who challenges us to step out and live a life of faith in Jesus.
Ichthus camps have been around since 2002. Many of the leaders on these camps grew up attending them.
The word Ichthus comes from Koine Greek, where it means ‘fish’. In Koine Greek, it is also an acronym for “Jesus Christ, God’s Son, Saviour”.
2. When is Primary Ichthus?
Primary Ichthus 2019 starts at 2pm Wednesday 16th January and ends at 11am Saturday 19th January after our family service at 10am which parents, families and friends of the campers are welcome to.
3. Where is Primary Ichthus?
Primary Ichthus is at Mudjimba, a campsite at the Sunshine Coast. For a map and directions, see below.
4. What is the cost?
The total cost to attend Primary Ichthus 2019 is $199. This cost is subject to change closer to the date of camp.
Registration closes at 5pm on 20 December. We are unable to process registrations after this date due to strict catering deadlines.
5. Who can attend the camp?
Anyone in Grade 4, 5, 6, or 7 in 2019.
6. What can participants expect to experience?
This year we will be taking advantage of being on the Sunshine Coast to include a wide range of activities including beach games, puzzles, archery, ropes courses, raft building, real-life Cluedo and much, much more. A key aspect of the camp is the worship and small group time, giving the participants a chance to discuss and reflect with other participants their own age on what the Spiritual Director’s talks mean to them.
7. Who is running Primary Ichthus?
The Camp Directors of Primary Ichthus 2019 are Stephanie Tognola and Pradeep Manickham.
The Spiritual Director of Primary Ichthus 2019 is the Rev Michael Stalley.
The Directors are assisted by a team of around 20 volunteers. All leaders complete thorough pre-camp training – and depending on their role, they may be required to have further training or qualifications. For more information on becoming a leader, please refer to: /camping/leaders/
Primary Ichthus is overseen by the Ministry Education Commission of the Diocese of Brisbane (Anglican Church of Australia). Jonathan Kemp (Director of Youth, Children’s and Families Ministry) and Erica Skerman (Diocesan Camps Coordinator) provide direct oversight and logistical support to the team of volunteers leaders.
All Primary Ichthus leaders who are over 18 have current Blue Cards or the equivalent. Before camp, all Blue Cards and Exemption Cards are validated, via the Commission for Children and Young People and Child Guardian. We also require all leaders who are 18 and over to complete the Safe Ministry Check and work through the Diocese of Brisbane Child Protection Policy and Procedures.

8. Do participants need to be Anglican or Christian?
No – there is no requirement for participants to be Anglican or Christian. There will be Christian input and worship throughout the week. Participants are expected to respect the faith and beliefs of others and can expect to have their own faith and beliefs respected.
9. How do participants register?

10. What happens if my child gets hurt or sick?
All care is taken to prevent injuries and illness on camp, but sometimes accidents happen. For all activities, on and off site, there will be a designated first aid officer accompanying each group. Should anything happen, we will apply first aid as required and if warranted travel to Accident and Emergency, or call an Ambulance. We will make every effort to speak to the emergency contacts nominated on the registration form as soon as possible. Our camps are drug and alcohol free events (including cigarettes) which applies to both campers and leaders. If you believe this is going to be an issue, please contact us sooner rather than later.
11. How can my Parish or School support Primary Ichthus?
Your Parish or School can support Ichthus camps in a number of ways.
- By promoting it. You can find promotional material on this website, or Contact Us for more hard copies.
- By sponsoring participants. Many of the participants of past Ichthus camps have been sponsored by their Parish in whole or part. Some Parishes sponsor participants from local schools or other parishes.
- By making a donation to the camp. Ichthus camps are not run to make a profit, but we aim to cover costs. Donations help us keep the price down.
- By finding future leaders. The teams for Ichthus camps are organised many months before the camp, but we are always on the lookout for leaders for future camps. Prospective leaders should apply here.
12. How do I get to/from the campsite?
We ask that parents/guardians provide transport for their children to/from the campsite. If you are in need of assistance for transport please let us know on the registration forms and we can do our best to assist you. Here are some helpful directions to the campsite:
From M1 Bruce Highway – heading north:
- Just after passing through Palmview take exit 70 towards Buderim/Mooloolaba
- If entering Forest Glen you have gone too far
- Continue exit 70 again towards Maroochydore/Noosa Heads (veering left)
- Take State Route 6 exit towards Bli Bli
- At roundabout take 3rd exit onto David Low Way towards Mudjimba
- Turn right onto Ocean Drive
- Turn right onto Nojoor Rd
- Stop at campsite
From National Highway A1 heading south:
- Continue on National Highway A1 to Bli Bli. Take the exit for Route 10 from M1
- Take the Route 10 exit towards Blackall Range Tourist Drive/Route 23/Nambour-Bli Bli Road/Nambour/Mudjimba
- Continue on Bli Bli Rd/State Route 10. Take David Low Way/State Route 6 to Nojoor Rd in Twin Waters
- At the roundabout, take the 1st exit onto Bli Bli Rd/State Route 10 heading to NAMBOUR-BLI BLI ROAD/Mudjimba
- At the roundabout, take the 1st exit onto David Low Way/State Route 6
- At the roundabout, take the 2nd exit onto David Low Way/Suncoast Blvd/State Route 6 heading to Mudjimba
- Turn right onto Ocean Dr, Go through 2 roundabouts.
- At the roundabout, take the 1st exit and stay on Ocean Dr. Then Turn right onto Nojoor Rd. The campsite is on the left.
