“Youth” Synod Representatives

Call for nominations to be a “Youth” member of Diocesan Synod 2014:

Under the current Synod Canon (2.1.o), it is possible for the Synod to include “not more than six persons (not more than three from each Region) each qualified to be an Elector and aged no older than 30 years”. Under the Parish Regulations: C.1.1. A person’s qualifications for involvement in parish affairs depend on the following definitions – (a) Member of this Church – means a baptised person who attends the public worship of this Church and who declares that he/she is a member of this Church and of no Church which is not in communion with this Church. (b) Parishioner – means a Member of this Church who is at least 18 years of age and who has been for a period of not less than three months and is an accustomed worshipper in the particular Parish. (c) Elector – means a communicant Parishioner provided that no person may at any time be an Elector for more than one Parish. General criteria: 1. Experience in parish and preferably wider church life, especially in ministries most relevant to young people. 2. Interest and/or experience in the work and mission of the Anglican Church and a desire to see the Anglican Church flourish 3. Willingness to sign a formal ‘submission to Synod’, agreeing to abide by the Synod rules 4. Confidence in public speaking and the ability to be present and participate for the entire Synod weekend, including other preparation sessions which may be required. 5. An inclusive, constructive attitude of tolerance and respect for the opinions of others, especially other Anglicans whose theological positions may differ from your own. The Synod weekend will be from Friday night (11 July) to Sunday 13 July 2014.

To apply to be a Synod representative, please send an email before 30th March to [email protected], introducing yourself and telling me how you fit the requirements (age, parish, etc) and the criteria above.

I’m also happy to answer any questions about the role and what’s required. Final decisions will be made in consultation with appropriate authorities.

Peace in Christ, Jonathan Kemp, DYCF
